This week Uphills 'B', 'D'and 'E' teams were in action with mixed fortunes.
The 'B' team were away to Clevedon Feathers 'B' and won by 6 rubbers to 3. The team of Ruth Harding, Steve Matthew, Denise Burton, Alex Mole, Steff Hadley and Brian Hadley all played well. The match started with Ruth & Steve and Denise & Alex winning the first two mixed rubbers relatively easily 15-21, 12-21 and 17-21, 8-21 but the third mixed between Steff & Brian and Margaret Meadows & Elwyn Williams (Clevedon) went to three games, with Margaret & Elwyn winning 15-21, 21-16, 21-18. Clevedon Feathers then won the first ladies comfortably 21-14, 21-12 but Ruth & Steff took the second ladies to three games before losing 21-17, 14-21, 21-17. In the final ladies rubber Denise & Steff won a hard fought rubber 22-24, 15-21. The Uphill men then dominated the mens rubbers winning all three of them fairly comfortably.
Uphill 'D' team were at home to Wyvern 'D' and lost by 6 rubbers to 3. The team had two of their normal men missing, and consisted of Claire Garrett, Matthew Valentine, Fiona Singleton, Steve Robinson, Sue Garrett and Tom Higgins. The match started well for Uphill when Clare & Matthew won a close first mixed rubber 21-18, 18-21, 21-19, but Wyvern came back to win the next two mixed rubbers, but not before Sue & Tom (an up and coming junior), made the experienced Jane Burstow & Ray Badman work hard to win 21-23, 16-21. Then Claire, with support from Fiona and Sue, won the first two ladies rubbers to finish the evening unbeaten. From then on in it was all Wyvern as they won the last ladies rubber and all three mens.
The 'E' team consisting of four juniors, Kate Robinson, Matthew Potts, Adam Dainty and Robin Curry together with Helen Woodfin and Caroline Poole were at home to a strong Wells team, who currently have 91 points from 10 matches. Wells won the match by 8 rubbers to 1. This was a brave performance by the young players, with Matthew, Robin and Adam, taking the first two mens rubbers to three games. It was however left to Caroline & Robin Curry to save the whitewash by winning the second mixed rubber 21-13, 21-19.
