50/50 week for Uphill Teams
Date: 3rd February 200850/50 WEEK FOR UPHILL TEAMS
Uphill had two matches in the North Somerset League this week. The 'D' team played Chew Valley 'B' away and lost an enjoyable match by 6 rubbers to 2. Uphill had two ladies unavailable but their replacements, Caroline Poole and Helen Woodfin both won their mixed rubbers with Jonathan Kittos and Chris Ponting respectively. The match proved very competitive in the mixed and mens, with three of the six rubbers going to three games and the other three rubbers being close and hard fought. The ladies rubbers however were totally dominated by the strong Chew Valley ladies. All the mens rubbers were close, with the last of the evening between Jonathan Kittos & Chris Ponting and Rob Navmarch & Josh Toogood of Chew going to three games, but with the scores at 21-12, 18-21 and 14-14 the match had to be abandoned as they ran out of court time.
The continual bickering of one of the Nailsea & Backwell 'C' team players spoilt the evening for the Uphill players. Despite this the team of Julie O'Sullivan & Rob Morray, Maureen Matthews & Scott Horsnell and Nicole Blunden & Mark Hosford (Capt.) beat Nailsea & Backwell 'C' by 5 rubbers to 4. In this match Nailsea & Backwell won two of the mixed rubbers, one of which was between Charlie Durston & Will Turner (Nailsea & Backwell)and Nicole Blunden & Mark Hosford Uphill which went to three games with Charlie & Will doing well after losing the first game 17-21 to come back and win the next two 21-19, 21-19. The ladies rubbers were all very close and competitive with all of them going to three games with Uphill only winning one. In the mens, Uphill were totally dominant to the point that in the first mens, Rob Morray & Scott Horsnell beat Steve Durston & MacMacdonald 21-10, 21-4.
