League Champions Uphill Back On-Song

LEAGUE CHAMPIONS UPHILL ARE BACK ON-SONG

The Uphill 'A' team followed up their win against Clevedon Feathers with a home win against Pill who they beat by 7 rubbers to 2. The Uphill team of Jenny Cross, Paul Edwards, Nicky Mills (Capt.), Mark Edwards, Becky Halfpenny and Brian Hadley, all played well.Uphill got off to a good start winning the first two mixed rubbers in straight games, but Pill fought back to take the last mixed rubber in straight games. The Uphill Ladies then won all their rubbers. In the mens Paul & Mark for Uphill won the first mens rubber comfortably 21-11, 21-11. The second mens rubber was a much tougher proposition with Paul & Brian for Uphill losing 16-21, 21-18 and 21-23 after a really hard fought contest. The last mens rubber was won by Mark & Brian of Uphill after two close games of 21-17, 22-20.

Uphill 'A' have now played 7, won 6, got 46 rubbers and 58 points, Clevedon Feathers 'A' have played 5, won 4, got 30 rubbers and 38 points and Frys 'A' are lying third having played 7, won 3, got 27 rubbers and 33 points.

The 'C' team played at home to Wyvern 'C' and lost a hard fought match by 5 rubbers to 4. This was a match where three of the nine rubbers went to three games. On another night the result could easily have been reversed. As it was, Wyvern got off to a good start winning the first mixed rubber 21-19, 19-21, 13-21, then Julie Storer & Scott Horsnell won the next mixed rubber 21-15, 21-10. Nicole Blunden & Mark Hosford of Uphill had an off night and lost 10-21, 7-21. The Wyvern ladies then won all their rubbers, although Julie Storer & Nicole Blunden took Tracy Holder & Stella Ponting to three games before losing 21-17, 13-21, 16-21. All three mens rubbers were close with one going to three games, but Uphill won all of them. Scott Horsnell of Uphill was in control of all his rubbers winning them in straight games with support from Julie Storer, Rob Murray and (Capt.) Mark Hosford.
