ROBIN CURRY IS STAR OF UPHILL JUNIORS

Robin Curry is tops in the Uphill Junior Clubs monthly singles tournament for the top group. This group which is split into four different ability levels, all produced close results with some excellent badminton. Twenty-one players took part and the winners and runners up were as follows: -

Level 1 - Winner: Emily Look (44 points), Runner-up: Emily Walker (41 points).

Level 2 - Winner: Kate Robinson (51 points), Runner-up: Callum Grayson (49 points),

Level 3 - Winner: Sonny Topham (44 points), Runner-up: Billy Fear (41 points)

Level 4 - Winner: Robin Curry (44 points), Runner-up: Tom Higgins (40 points)

Uphill 'D' team, consisting of Chris Retallack, Matthew Valentine, Helen Woodfin, Tom Higgins, Maureen Matthews and Jonathan Kittos were away to Portishead 'B' in Division 5 of the North Somerset League and won by 6 rubbers to 3. This was a match where three of the rubbers went to three games, with Portishead winning two and Uphill one. Uphill started well when Chris & Matt won a closely fought first mixed 12-21, 30-29, 15-21. Then Portisheads Barbara O'Brien & Clive Thatcher won the next 21-16, 21-15. The final mixed saw Maureen & Jonathan win comfortably 21-16, 21-16 to put Uphill in front. Two of the ladies doubles then went to 3 games with Portishead winning both the first 17-21, 21-19, 21-17 and the second 15-21, 21-17, 21-15. Chris & Maureen won the other ladies 21-12, 21-16. The Uphill men proved too strong for those from Portishead and won all their rubbers in straight games. For Uphill Matt and Jonathan won all their rubbers.
