Ellie & Claire are 2005 Uphilll Ladies Champions

Uphill Badminton Club held its end of season Ladies Doubles handicap tournament in which there were 12 drawn pairs. These were split into three boxes with the winner from each box and the best runner up qualifying for the semi-finals.

After a hectic and enjoyable evenings badminton the semi-finalists were: - Jenny Cross & Sue Garrett, Nicky Mills & Rachel Hart, Ellie Hart & Claire Garrett and Steph Hadley & Emma Moloney.

Mixed Tournament

Last week saw the culmination of the Uphill Badminton Club's mixed doubles tournament that started some three months ago. Four boxes of players competed against each other in a round robin format, with the top two pairs from each box qualifying to the quarterfinal stages. As luck would have it the four top seeded pairs won through to the semi-finals.

Uphill Celebrate as Double League Champions

The mens team were Champions of the Bristol Mens League, while in the North Somerset League the mixed 'A' team were unbeaten in becoming the Champions for the first time, having been runners up on four previous occasions. The mixed 'B' team won Division 3 gaining promotion to Division 2 next season. In the George Rowden competition, the Uphill team were knocked out, in a hard fought first round, by the eventual winners Severn Vale from Bristol. Uphill Ladies Finish in Style

This week Uphill completed their league fixtures for the season with a rearranged ladies match against Wyvern. The Uphill team of Rachael Hart, Claire Garrett, Denise Burton and Julie O'Sullivan all played well and swept the board, winning by 6 rubbers to 0. The match was however much closer than the score would indicate, with 4 of the 6 rubbers going to 3 games, and one other rubber that only went to 2 games, having a winning score of 17-15. This week saw the Uphills 'B', 'C' and 'F' teams playing in the North Somerset League.

Uphill 'B' team were away to Clevedon Feathers 'C' team and won by 8 rubbers to 1 to become Champions of Division 3. In this match two mixed and one ladies rubber went to three games, both of which Uphill won, all the rest were one sided single figure straight games.
