UPHILL JUNIORS CELEBRATE WITH THEIR END OF SEASON PRESENTATIONS

 The junior section of Uphill Badminton Club held their keenly contested end of season tournament with over 90 children from 5 to 17yrs old taking part. The presentations were conducted by Caroline Poole, with help from Grant Kelly, who was last years junior Sports Person of the Year, and kindly presented by Dave Bickell from the Weston Mercury on behalf of the Howard Group. The HOWARD GROUP make this end of season celebration possible by their kind sponsorship, which provides the trophies that ...

UPHILL 'D' TEAM WIN THE 5th DIVISION

Uphill 'C' and 'D' teams both won their North Somerset League matches this week and top their divisions. The 'E' team put up a good fight against the division runners-up Wedmore.

Uphill 'C' team, who have already won their division, were away to Nailsea & Backwell 'C' and won by 7 rubbers to 2. The team of Ruth Harding, Mark Hosford, Maureen Matthews, Rob Morray, Nicole Blunden and Tom Higgins all played well and proved to be too strong for their opposition. GOOD WIN FOR UPHILL 'B' TEAM

Uphills 'B' and 'E' teams have been in action with mixed results.

The 'B' team were at home to Wyvern 'B' and won by 6 rubbers to3. This was a good competitive match with three of the rubbers going to three games and four of the other six rubbers having 22-20 or 21-23 score lines. Uphill started well with Ellie Jewell & John Hunt beating Julie Stainer & Tom Riley 21-7, 21-5. Lou Malik & Jimmy Soophanic then beat Uphills Denise Burton & Scott Horsnell 21-23, 7-21. UPHILLS 'C' TEAM WIN DIVISION 4 WITH TWO GAMES TO SPARE

Uphills 'B', 'C' and 'D' teams have been in action this week with the 'C' team winning their division.

Uphill 'B' were away to local rivals Wyvern 'A' and lost a close match by 6 rubbers to 3. The team of Denise Burton (Captain), Scott Horsnell, Ellie Jewell, John Hunt, Teresa Davison and Matt Valentine could and perhaps should have won the match 5-4. With three regulars missing, the stand-ins performed admirably.

ELLIE JEWELL MAKES WINNING COMEBACK

Uphills 'B' team was away to Wyvern 'C' team and won by 6 rubbers to 3 despite having three regular players missing. All those who stood in performed well, but the highlight of the evening was the return to league badminton of Ellie Jewell, who came up through the Uphill Junior Club to be a top first team player.
